My inspiration for this piece comes from my eternal love, respect and admiration for the Dolphins of the sea.
Taking a slab of clay I've tried to create the grace of ocean waves and the playful energy of dolphins leaping in and out of the sea.
I wanted to freeze that joyful movement in clay by sculpting the dolphins circle around an open bowl like water coming to life.
Dolphins have been my spiritual anchors since the moment I was graced by their "Presents."
Forty plus years ago my husband wanted to pick out the perfect engagement ring for me. I insisted we create our own marital band's, and that we did, Dolphins at their finest. I've spent some of the greatest moments of my life researching them in the wild.
We would anchor up just about 100 miles off the coast of the Grande Bahamas.Swimming daily with them, naming them, documenting them, becoming one with them and their pod for weeks at a time.In fact they were the first to know I was pregnant with our first son. (Insisted it was the flu, but they knew)
Once we returned to port I found out it wasn't the flu, I was only weeks pregnant.
Seriously they possess such incredible superpowers, like 3D echolocation, literally an ultrasound. A high-frequency of clicks through an organ called the melon, creating a 3D mental map of objects and metal density.
They also heal at superhuman speeds.
Their skin regenerates up to nine times faster than human skin.
They literally sleep with one brain hemisphere active and one eye open to watch for danger while surfacing for air.
Their natural abilities are so far advanced,And, still.....After all the toxins, plastics, and extraordinary waste that land creatures pump into their home, they will still go out of their way to protect and safe us. Maybe, one, by one....we could put forth the effort to return the favor. 🫧🐬🩵
